Check whether Rahu–Ketu hem all classical planets — and which of the 12 types applies.
What is Kaal Sarp Dosha?
Kaal Sarp Dosha (also called Kaal Sarp Yoga) is a classical nodal configuration: when the seven classical planets — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn — lie on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis. Rahu and Ketu form a “serpent” polarity across opposite houses; if every planet is hemmed between them, the yoga is said to be present.
There are traditionally twelve types, named by Rahu’s house: Anant, Kulik, Vasuki, Shankhapal, Padma, Mahapadma, Takshak, Karkotak, Shankhnaad, Patak, Vishdhar, and Sheshnag. Each type emphasises a different life axis — for example Anant on the 1st–7th (self vs partnership) or Shankhapal on the 4th–10th (home vs career).
Astrologers also distinguish Full vs Partial forms. Full means all seven planets sit strictly between the nodes; Partial often means one planet sits with Rahu or Ketu while the rest remain on one side. Many charts labelled “Kaal Sarp” online are partial or miscounted — always verify with accurate birth time for Lagna and house placement.
Effects are never one-size-fits-all. Chart strength, dasha periods, and free will matter more than fear-based lists. Remedial themes commonly include Shiva worship (especially Nagpanchami), charity, and disciplined living. Pair this check with Kundali matching or a full kundali when marriage or career decisions are involved — education first, panic never.
